Mr walker talked about manias in this world today. He first talked about Beatles mania: hysterical teenagers, crying, screaming and pandemonium. Then he continued by saying sport mania: deafening crowds, get the ball in the net. Then he moved to religious mania: rapture, weeping, visions. Manias can be good, alarming or manias can be deadly.

Talking about language mania, there is a unique mania that Chinese students practice English by screaming it and lead by their English teacher. 2 billion people learning English worldwide in latin America, India southeast Asia most of it in china. The Chinese students start learning English in the third grade by law. Nowadays, china will become the world’s largest English speaking country. He also talked about why English ? the reasons are opportunity for better life, job, paying school and better food.

 Chinese students are taking a giant test for three full days, the score of the test determines their future. Studying 12 hours a day for three years to prepare 25% of their grade on English called Gaokao. 80 million high  school Chinese students have already taken this grueling test, the intensity of learning English is almost unimaginable unless we witness it .

English mania good or bad? Is English a tsunami washing away other language ? not likely.

English is the world second language /native language in your life. English becomes a global conversation about global problems, climate change, poverty, hunger or disease. Actually the world has other large languages that is mathematics . Mathematics is the language of science, music is language of emotion. Nowadays, English is becoming a language of problem solving because the world is pulling it, so, English mania is a turning point. It represent hope for a better future, where the world has common language to solve it common problem.

In addition, china is the largest number of English learners and speaker in the world. Actually. According to Kacru’s theory of world English, China is in the expanding circle where the role of English is as foreign language as same as Indonesia, but they learn English hardly like what have been explained by Mr walker in his speech Chinese are learning English by screaming it. This mania is become a motivation for all students around the world to improve their ability in English.
