Introduction
This is my first posting on this blog, I am
Najmiatul fauza, English Department student of Ar-Raniry islamic University. I
came from one district called Indrapuri which is located in Great Aceh( Aceh
Besar), I am twenty years old now. The
bacground of studying Languages especially English:
Learning English started when I was in Fifth
Grade of Elementary School. At that time English language subject was the
“muatan lokal”subject, so the teacher only taught the basic aspect of English
language such as vocabularies and simple
sentences. That was because I came from a village, the majority of people there
worked as farmers, so they didn’t really care about education especially English.
However, I liked English since first
time I studied it. Two years later, after graduating from elementary school I
continued my study to Oemar Diyan Islamic Boarding School. This place
changed my life 180°. I had to live far from my family, washing my
clothes by my self, cleaning the room and I had to queue everywhere. Oemar
Diyan had a lot of rules especially in language. They allowed me to speak
Indonesian Language only in my first Three months, if I broke that rule I would
have been punished. Actually, I thought I couldn’t stay there for long time
because I was not good In Arabic and English, but my parent supported me
everytime, because I didn’t want to
dissapoint them, so I said to my self that you have to hold on for your parent.
In that three months I pushed my self to learn both two languages that were
Arabic and English. I brought dictionary and notes to everywhere I went such as
: kitchen, bathroom, mushalla, canteen, classroom. I tried to practice those
vocabularies in my daily activities. Alhamdulillah, because of study hard and
daily practicing, I could speak two languages in three months. After that my
life in that boarding school became a happy one. I could improve my language
every day because there was no one who
spoke Acehness or Indonesian language. Every morning I got two new vocabularies
from language department, from those vocabularies I had to make four sentences.
It helped me much in improving my language also I always kept practicing and
practicing English.
From my
experiences in learning languages, I want to share that dont worry if you are
not really good at something but you can
make it good by studying hard, practicing to use it. coming The key for
learning languages are practicing. Mastering a
dozen vocabularies doesn’t work if you dont use it in your daily life.
